On behalf of the 5 of us here at Reflections…..
Today marks the one year anniversary of Reflections of a Book Addict! On October 18, 2010 my journey into the book blogging world began with this post. (OMG don’t judge with how poorly it’s written – I’d like to think my writing has gotten better over the past year) Along the way I picked up my amazing staff bloggers: Todd, Adam, and Jess. The three of them have been fantastic and have added some really worthwhile content to the site. I’d like to announce today the addition of a fourth staff blogger, Charlie! (You can find out more about Charlie on the staff blogger page here). Charlie is going to be taking over the weekly film review, while Adam becomes our resident graphic novel expert. Todd and Jess will be posting more book reviews of their favorite genres, so keep your eyes peeled. And as always I’ll be continuing my journey towards 100 books. (As of today I’m up to 74!)
Lots of changes are going on with the blog! My good friend Ozzie Santana is designing and coding a whole new look for us. We’re going to unveil the new logo sometime today, but the rest of the stuff will come with time. I’m SO excited about the new look and can’t wait to share it all with you!!
I really wanted to say thank you to those of you who have been growing with me since day one, and those who have joined along the way. What is a blog without readers? In celebration of all of YOU I’m giving away ONE Nook E-Reader. Simply leave a comment below to be entered. You can earn extra entries if you subscribe to the blog, follow us on Twitter, “like” us on Facebook, or share this post on Facebook/Twitter. Each extra thing is an earned entry. (Max entries = 6) Comments will be accepted through midnight of Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Winner will be picked at random and announced on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Giveaway open to US and Canada only. Good luck!!
Thank you all from the bottom of my hearts for a fantastic first year. Here is to many more!
Hi there everyone, and welcome back to another “Living With a Book Addict” post. As you may have deduced by the lack of these types of posts, I’ve been quite busy reading ARC’s (Advanced Reading Copies) that Kim has received from publishing companies for me, as well as finishing up books that have been in my own little to-read pile. I was quite excited when I got my first ARC (The Second Messiah by Glenn Meade), and have since gotten a few more that are quite interesting. (Keep your eye out for new reviews from me) What I’ve come to find is that publishers are quite happy to get the word out about their publications, and are happy to send out these copies as long as we review them in turn. Sounds like a good deal, right? I certainly think so! I am now surrounded by more books than I’ve ever been in my life (well, discounting our trips to The Strand, I guess…). Therefore, it is with a humble hanging of my head that I must announce that I am becoming more and more like a book addict every day. How can this be, you ask!? Well, although I have written many a posting on the humors (and sometimes difficulties) of living with someone as dedicated to books as Kim is, it seems that I too have come under the spell of books and can’t resist their charm.
Hello readers!! This week in NYC is the Book Expo of America. For us bloggers who cannot attend, we’re participating in something called ArmchairBEA. ArmchairBEA is an opportunity for us to experience the Book Expo of America from our favorite armchair in the comfort of our homes. Today’s themed posting is a way for me to introduce myself to the rest of the BEA world, so here goes!
My name is Kim and as you can tell from the name of this blog I’m a book addict. My apartment is filled with piles of books everywhere, and they don’t seem to ever get any smaller. Life hasn’t always been this way for me though. I was an avid reader as a child but soon became focused on sports and dancing and other extracurricular activities that pulled me in directions that didn’t leave much time for pleasure reading. My life remained as such for most of my years through school. After graduating from Quinnipiac University in 2008, I began finding myself with spare time and my love for reading resurfaced.
I began challenging myself to read 100 books a year to keep my brain from turning to mush. I tried to fit this in with planning my wedding, co-chairing the 24hr Relay for Life event in my town, as well as becoming an active member of Quinnipiac’s alumni association. I soon found GoodReads and started reviewing and keeping track of all the books I was reading. Fellow blogger Laurel Ann, moderator of the Austenprose, started reading my reviews and asked if I’d like to be a guest reviewer for her blog. I started doing reviews for Austenprose and found my husband and sister convincing me that I should start my own blog and expand the kinds of books I was reading/reviewing.
This brings us up to last October when I launched Reflections of a Book Addict. Over the past 8 months I’ve begun growing my blog with giveaways, blog series, author interviews, and book reviews. I’m still new to the world of blogging and find myself trying to learn all I can from those around me. I’m always looking for fellow bloggers to learn from and befriend.
This is my first ArmchairBEA and I’m exceedingly excited to take part in it!
