What Are You Reading This February?

I need to first apologize for the extreme lack of blogging that’s been occurring this month! It’s been very busy here in the Denny-Ryder household. First, I’ve been job searching! I can happily say that after some stress, I’ve found a job which I think fits me perfectly – bookseller!

On top of job searching I’ve been planning a baby shower for my sister, who is due with the first baby in our family in April! I’m SO excited to become a first-time aunt and welcome my niece Charlotte into the world. As a book lover you can guess what I’ve begun collecting for her. There are books all over the house, just waiting to be read to her.

With that bit of housekeeping out-of-the-way, on to what I’m reading this month!

I’ve been on a bit of a Young Adult reading kick recently, so continuing in that vein I’m reading the second book in Eve Marie Mont’s Unbound series, A Touch of Scarlet. I literally finished the first book, A Breath of Eyre, yesterday, and found myself totally intrigued by a series in which the main character gets to live inside her favorite classic literature novels. In book one Emma gets to live in the pages of Jane Eyre. In book two she travels to The Scarlet Letter, and in book three (due out in March) she travels to the pages of The Phantom of the Opera.  It’s a really unique series and I’d recommend it just from what I’ve read so far.

Next on the list is John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. I know what you’re thinking – how have I not read this book yet!!?! Now that the trailer for the film has come out I realized that time was running out for me to read it, hence its addition to my list this month.

Finally, I’ve picked up The Accidental Feminist by M.G. Lord. As a big fan of old films and Elizabeth Taylor, I’m interested in learning how she raised the public’s collective consciousness about feminism through her films. From Butterfield 8 and Cleopatra, to Giant and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, she was a powerhouse performer that rocked roles about strong female leads.

What Are You Reading This January?

Here we are, almost a month into the new year and I have yet to ask what you’re all reading! Pardon my bad manners folks. This month’s reading schedule is chock full of new releases. January seems to be the month when a lot of my favorite authors release new novels. So without further ado, here’s what I’m reading!

Julie Klassen has become one of my favorite historical fiction writers over the last year or so. Her latest release, The Dancing Master, is high up on the list of books I MUST read this year. Continuing on my binge of historical fiction books for January will be new author (to me) Anne O’Brien and her latest release The Forbidden Queen. I love the rich history of the English monarchy, so any chance to read more about it I’ll take. And finally, Tessa Dare’s historical romance Romancing the Duke. It’s the first in her new Castles Ever After series and features a blind hero!!! The first 50 pages were released online this past week (click here) and after reading them…..I was hooked.

Other books releasing this month that I’m excited about: A Match Made in Texas is a compilation of short stories by several authors, Karen Witemeyer being one of them. I’m also pumped about The Destiny of Violet and Luke by Jessica Sorensen, Believe by Erin McCarthy, Live by Mary Ann Rivers, and Seeking Her by Cora Carmack.

What Are You Reading This December?

The holidays are always such a crazy time of the year: shopping for gifts, baking holiday treats, decorating the Christmas tree, etc. I feel as though I never have enough time to read and blog as much as I’d like. Instead, I run around like a chicken without its head! This year marks the first time I’ve ever been able to prep while working from home. Hopefully my usual stress level will be lowered and will allow me more reading time. With that dream in mind, here’s what I’m aiming to read this month:

First up is finishing Wedding Cake for Breakfast.  I’ve been reading it on and off throughout the year as I have time. The book, written by several authors, is comprised of short essays on the first year of marriage. I’ve really enjoyed the stories I’ve completed so far and am anxious to finally finish the book.

The River of No Return by Bee Ridgway was pitched to me as a book fans of Outlander would love. If you’ve been following the blog this year you know I’ve become obsessed with the Outlander series (reviews of book one, two, and three.) Therefore, it should come as no surprise that I’m PUMPED to start this.

And finally, Undressing Mr. Darcy by Karen Doornebos. Doornebos wrote Definitely Not Mr. Darcy, a book I really enjoyed last year. I’m a firm believer that you can never have too much Darcy, so I’m sure you can guess what my feelings are already about this book. 🙂

What Are You Reading This November?

With Thanksgiving approaching in a little over a week, I figured I’d publish a quick “What Are You Reading?” post! I’ll be traveling with Todd out to Ohio to spend the holidays with his mom’s side of the family.  We have a 12 hour drive out, so you can be sure I’ll be getting my read on.

So what’s on the agenda to read during the trip? First up is book three in Jessica Sorensen’s The Secret series (my reviews on the first two books, The Secret of Ella and Micha & The Forever of Ella and Micha, can be found by clicking on their titles.)  Also on the list is Jane Odiwe’s newest release, Project Darcy.  I’ve been a fan of Odiwe’s Austenesque novels for a while now, so I’m looking forward to adding this title to my completed reads list for the Pride and Prejudice reading challenge I’ve been taking part in.  My most recent of her reads was Searching for Captain Wentworth).  And last, but certainly not least, is Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon.  Drums of Autumn is the fourth book in her Outlander series (see reviews for book one, two, & three.)  My goal of reading one a month didn’t exactly pan out so well, huh…..

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll read more than just these three over the holiday, but they have my top priority.  How about the rest of you? Any special Thanksgiving plans/books you’re planning on reading?  Share them in the comments below!

What Are You Reading This August?

Normally, Kim has the pleasure of telling all of our readers what she has planned for the month and shares new finds and recent releases with you.  This month, I figured that I’d let you know what I’m going to be reading!  Currently, I’m almost finished with Marsha Cornelius’ Losing It All, and I plan on starting Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes next.  We had the pleasure of meeting Morgan at an event at R. J. Julia (read about it here), so I’m excited to finally get a chance to clear my schedule and read her work.

So, that brings us to you, readers.  What do you have planned for this month (even though it’s halfway over already!)  As the summer winds down and we find ourselves coming inside from the long summer nights, we’re entering prime reading time.  So, get ready for the cooler nights and curl up with a good book (and tell us about it!)

What Are You Reading This July?

It’s July!  That means vacation time, BBQ time, beach time, or what I like to call “reading time!”  July has a lot of book releases I’m excited about, so instead of telling you what I’m currently reading, I’m sharing what new releases I’ll be planning on reading.  What’s the book I’m looking forward to reading most?  Beauty and the Billionaire by Jessica Clare.  It is the second book in Clare’s Billionaire Boys Club series and it’s a Beauty and the Beast type story (I’m a HUGE lover of BatB tales. LOVE.)  My review on book one in the series, Stranded with a Billionaire, can be found here (Look for my review on book two sometime in the next two weeks.)  I’m also excited about the fourth book in Jennifer Probst’s Married to a Billionaire series, The Marriage Merger, set for release July 23rd (can you tell I have a thing for the billionaire romance trope?)  Also releasing on the 23rd is the next book in Marie Force’s Gansett Island series, Time for Love.  The conclusion to Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners series, The Mistress, is slated to be released on July 30 and wow, it packs a punch.  I was fortunate enough to read an advanced copy and hot damn, it was so good.  I’m duel reviewing the book with reading bestie Kelly towards the end of the month.

What Are You Reading This June?

What are you reading this month?!  I’ve been on a decidedly contemporary romance kick recently (although I’ve sprinkled a little bit of dystopic and paranormal books in the mix also.)  I’m planning on finishing the month out with historical fiction novels.  Specifically, The Lavender Garden by Lucinda Riley, The River of No Return by Bee Ridgway, and When They Fall in Love by Mary Lydon Simonsen!

What Are You Reading This May?

It’s that time again! Time to share what we’re all reading this month! I’m still going strong with my new adult kick, adding in some historical fiction and YA novels as well.  A complete list of what I’ve read for the year can be found here.  On the forefront for the rest of May? More new adult and some historical fiction.  I’m currently in the middle of reading Karina Halle’s Sins & Needles, the first book in her Artists Trilogy.  Following that I’m delving into Karen Witemeyer’s new novel Stealing the Preacher, which is slated for release June 1st.  And finally Some Quiet Place by Kelsey Sutton.  The plot of this last book fascinated me so much I couldn’t help but request it for review!

What Are You Reading This April?

How is April already halfway over?? I’ve read 12 books in for the month already and I’m hoping to double that number for the end of the month.  You can find my completed books list here.  Here’s what I’m hoping to read the rest of the month: Seduction by M.J. What Are You Reading This March?

March has turned out to be a stellar reading month.  11 books completed for the month so far with no signs of slowing down!  I’ve been on a major time travel kick this year, having already completed 7 time-traveling books this year.  My new time travel obsession is a trilogy called the Ruby Red trilogy (or the Edelstein Trilogie as it’s called in its native Germany). So far only two of the three books by Kerstin Gier have been released in the US, with the third (Emerald Green) due out in October.  I highly recommend you check this series out ASAP. SO GOOD. And the covers are beautiful to boot!

Anyway enough about my recent time travel obsession and on to what I’m reading!  I’m hoping to get through Philippa Gregory’s The Kingmaker’s Daughter, Elizabeth Hoyt’s Lord of Darkness, and a biography on Jane Austen by Paula Byrne entitled The Real Jane Austen: A Life in Small Things. Now it’s your turn!
