Here we are, almost a month into the new year and I have yet to ask what you’re all reading! Pardon my bad manners folks. This month’s reading schedule is chock full of new releases. January seems to be the month when a lot of my favorite authors release new novels. So without further ado, here’s what I’m reading!
Julie Klassen has become one of my favorite historical fiction writers over the last year or so. Her latest release, The Dancing Master, is high up on the list of books I MUST read this year. Continuing on my binge of historical fiction books for January will be new author (to me) Anne O’Brien and her latest release The Forbidden Queen. I love the rich history of the English monarchy, so any chance to read more about it I’ll take. And finally, Tessa Dare’s historical romance Romancing the Duke. It’s the first in her new Castles Ever After series and features a blind hero!!! The first 50 pages were released online this past week (click here) and after reading them…..I was hooked.
Other books releasing this month that I’m excited about: A Match Made in Texas is a compilation of short stories by several authors, Karen Witemeyer being one of them. I’m also pumped about The Destiny of Violet and Luke by Jessica Sorensen, Believe by Erin McCarthy, Live by Mary Ann Rivers, and Seeking Her by Cora Carmack.
Over to you readers! What’s currently on your nightstand? Any new releases you’re excited about this month?
I’m going old school: Italo Calvino’s collection of short fiction, Difficult Loves which I’ll be reviewing on my blog this weekend.
I am currently reading Once Upon a Timepiece by Starr Wood which is a great collection of short stories centring on the timepiece and how it touches people’s lives. I am reading it for review and I love it. Next up is Remarkable Creatures by Tracey Chevalier for book group.
I’m reading Empress Dowager Cixi by Jung Chang and enjoying it. I will check out your historical fiction recommendations 🙂
Am trying to read 52 books this year
Good luck with your challenge!!
I’m horrible at figuring out what books I want to read next. I’m currently finishing the 7th Harry Potter book, and still need to read the 4th book to the Sword of Ice and Fire series. I’ve started a few short story collections too including some HP Lovecraft and other collections of Suspense stories. It all depends on my mood when i finish my current book, but i have a stack of multiple genre’s to choose from.
I wish I was reading the HP series again for the first time. SO GOOD.
I’m balancing Isaac Asimov’s Foundation and Robot series with a reread of Jane Austen’s classic works. Carl Sagan’s ‘Cosmos’ is next on my list, along with ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’.
YES TO AUSTEN REREADS!!! <<<<333
Haha.. I share your enthusiasm 🙂
Reading “Life After Life” by Kate Adkinson
I started reading that MONTHS ago and stopped after a few chapters. Let me know if it picks up and gets good?!
Ehhh. Its pretty good, until the end when nothing is resolved. so though i was interested for most of it, i was very disappointed.
I have started the Ender’s Game series. I went to go watch the movie when it came out and found out its one of like 9 books. So far i have read the first one and now have started the second:) I’m always looking for new ideas on what to read. Glad you posted this. It’s so interesting to see what everyone else is reading.
Donna Tarttt’s The Goldfinch….hmmmm
I am up 7 books for the month already! But here are two that I am very focused on: Making Faces and The Sweetgum Tree
I just finished The House at Riverton by Kate Morton, a gift from my sweet daughter-in-law that I thoroughly enjoyed.
❤ You're the best mother-in-law eveaaaa
I just got a load of books from a mega book sale here and am slowly going through them. One very good one which I’m currently reading is Say You’re One of Them by Uwem Akpan.
I have been reading The Black Dagger brotherhood by J.R Ward. I am almost finished with Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Album
The Hobbit + Lord of the Rings series is on my agenda. Now it’s time to see how good these novels are!
I’ve got The Kite Runner, Ender’s Game and World War Z (plus about fifty others) waiting on my shelf! Those three I’m determined to get to first, and I’m excited for each of them, and I don’t know which one to read first!
Hubs read World War Z and LOVED it. I hope you enjoy it just as much!
I nabbed myself the Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson from a small thrift shop last summer. This month, I decided to begin the trek through the set. I haven’t struggled like this to finish a novel since Ernest Hemingway’s To Have or Have Not. It’s Nap-fest, 2014.
Alas, I’m not reading any “new” books at the moment… finishing up The Great Gatsby tonight hopefully (so I can FINALLY watch the movie), then moving on to The Shining. I picked up SK’s new book, Doctor Sleep, just after Christmas, but it’s been so long since I read The Shining that I want a refresher before I dig into the sequel. Very excited about it, I’m a big Stephen King fan!
Hey, on the third book on the right, the girl has the same first name as me!! XD
Romancing the Duke? IT WAS AMAZING.
